The iconic calendar mosque,Dubai

This project was done in collaboration with Fahd Abdullah Alireza & Partners Engineering Consultants Co. This was a competition entry, which was presented to EMAAR, to design an iconic mosque in Dubai. The concept was derived from three major sources. These were: the triangular conditions of the site caused by the acute angle to face Makkah, the spiritual idea of ascendance while praying, and the history of mosque architecture. These three ideas have been used here to create a grand space ascending to the sky. The mosque is roofed by a dome that mimics the astrolabe from the medieval Islamic astrology to denote the time of each month of the year. It is called the “Taqweem Mosque” which means the calendar.
